Guardian & Stock Dogs

Livestock guardian dogs are a crucial part of our sheep operation. Without good guard dogs, we would not be able to raise sheep because of the losses we would suffer from predation from coyotes.

Our dogs live with the sheep year round. They become bonded with their flock as puppies and seem to consider themselves as just another sheep. We have tried several breeds, but are especially fond of our Komondor guard dogs. They seem to stay with the flock the best. Our Komondors will carry more hair than an Anatolian or Akbash, but they are a far cry from the ropy mops you would see at the Westminster Dog Show. We can’t say enough good about them. They are worth their weight in gold.

Stock dogs also are used in our livestock operation. Kelpies and Border Collies are our breeds of choice. We regularly use them to move our flocks. Commands are kept simple with the focus on using the dog’s natural ability and tendencies to get the job done. Whether it’s moving livestock from paddock to paddock, or using them to increase stock density to improve a particular piece of ground, our dogs are an invaluable tool to us.

We occasionally have guard dog and stock dog puppies available. If you’re interested let us know and we will contact you as they become available.
